Class Values

ExerciseWithAlice is fully committed to a safe, comfortable, friendly and mutually respectful environment for all class members, the class teacher and her team. This is vital to ensuring an enjoyable and fun class for every class member, class teacher and their team.

Part of the induction process is the Safe to Exercise Form which includes a signed statement agreeing to treat everyone, including the class teacher, with respect. This is a prerequisite to joining the class and adherence is required throughout the period of membership.

As a private dance exercise class, the class teacher has full autonomy in all matters affecting the class, including (but not limited to) temperature, ventilation, lighting, dress code and behaviour to others, including the class teacher. This is essential for class safety and comfort and is key to continuing attendance by all class members. The class teacher's decisions on these matters (or as delegated to their team) is final and binding.

In the very rare and unfortunate event of a lack of adherence to this policy by any class member, the membership will be ceased and the current month's fee refunded in full.

Aggressive or abusive behaviour (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/charity-commission-unacceptable-customer-behaviour-policy-and-procedure/unacceptable-customer-behaviour-policy-and-procedure)

This is behaviour or language (written or spoken) that could cause the class teacher or class members to feel afraid, threatened or abused, physically or sexually. This includes threatening emails, telephone calls, meetings, and comments on social media or elsewhere.

For example:

  • insulting or degrading language, including inappropriate banter, innuendo or malicious allegations

  • any form of physical or sexual violence, threats of physical violence or inappropriate sexual behaviour/exposure.

  • derogatory racist, sexist, ageist, or homophobic remarks

  • comments relating to disability, perceived gender, religion, belief, or any other personal characteristic

The vast majority of class members over many years have been friendly, helpful and have attended in the right spirit and it is for the continuation of this success that unfortunately the very rare exceptions have been detailed above.

DRESS CODE for Exercise With Alice Dance Exercise Classes, which forms part of conditions of attending the class.

Newer members of the classes may benefit from this short description of
appropriate and safe attire for classes, which form part of the attendance
terms and conditions (as per insurance stipulations)

The dress code for classes -

Please wear comfortable loose fitting clothes, and appropriate attire,
allowing circulation. Not too short, not too long.

To ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe, we ask that all participants
wear clothing that covers their body adequately and is suitable for exercise.

Footwear – Jazz shoes are not really suitable for classes at all (usually only
worn for ballet nowadays)
Comfortable shoes eg trainers or similar with a good sole are the best thing
for the legs and spine and also for shock absorption.
